The best way to protect your smile is by preventing problems before they start. Most of the conditions that negatively affect your smile can be avoided with regular care. The Hill Avenue Dental team is committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and providing you with exceptional preventive dentistry.

Periodontal Therapy

Fifty percent of all adults have some form of periodontal disease, often without realizing it. Periodontal disease is chiefly responsible for adult tooth loss, bleeding gums, bad breath, and receding gums. If diagnosed in its early stages, periodontal disease treatments are easier, less invasive and more effective. Your visit at Hill Avenue Dental includes a complete evaluation of your gums and supportive tissues. You will have access to the highest quality periodontal therapy to heal and restore your oral health.

Pediatric Care

Introducing your child to preventive dental care at an early age is important in establishing good oral health that can last a lifetime. Maintaining healthy baby teeth is vital to the development of permanent teeth. Dr. Dotson and Dr. Hartzell will help make your child’s visit to the dentist a positive experience.

Root Canal Treatment

Damage to the nerve tissue inside a tooth sometimes requires a root canal procedure. The procedure involves removing the soft tissue within the tooth when it has become infected and inflamed. Dr. Dotson and Dr. Hartzell will gently remove the infected tissue and fill the void with an inert material. The procedure is completed with the placement of a crown.

Tooth Extractions

In some cases, injury or decay damages a tooth extensively and an extraction is the proper treatment option to start you on the path toward complete dental health. Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell can remove your troublesome tooth and give you the treatment options for replacing that tooth and completing your smile again.

Are you embarrassed about your smile because of decayed, disfigured or discolored teeth? You may be a good candidate for composite resins, also known as tooth-colored fillings or restorations. When the decay has been taken out of a tooth, it is replaced with filling material. In the past, amalgam (silver) fillings were placed into the cleaned out portion of the tooth. With new advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored fillings instead of silver fillings resulting in a long lasting, brighter, whiter smile. The composite is bonded to the tooth for a stronger restoration. Together you and the doctor can decide which option is best for you.

Oral Cancer Screenings

As a comprehensive dental practice, Hill Avenue Dental offers routine oral cancer screenings to you as a patient. As your dentists, Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell will evaluate routinely to detect abnormalities. Early detection is important. A patient who does not seek regular continuous care from a dental professional is putting their health at risk by delaying a diagnosis in the early stage of oral cancer.

A nightguard is a simple solution that protects your teeth from the harmful effects of nighttime grinding. Dr. Dotson and Dr. Hartzell provide a custom molded mouth guard to comfortably fit over your upper teeth creating a barrier between your upper and lower teeth. The cushion between the teeth absorbs the force of grinding. A nightguard reduces discomfort associated with clenching and grinding and reduces TMJ problems by helping relax the muscles of the jaw. Finally, rest comfortably again!

Years of wear and tear, injury, or dental neglect can have a negative effect on the look and function of your teeth. The Hill Avenue Dental team changes lives every day through restorative dentistry. Rejuvenate your smile today!

Are you missing teeth? Have you postponed getting a bridge or denture? Do you wear ill-fitting or loose dentures? Hill Avenue Dental wants to improve your quality of life with dental implants.

As the prosthetic that most closely mimics natures design, dental implants serve as substitute tooth roots. Each implant is strategically placed in the jaw, where bone integrates with it to create a solid foundation for a crown, bridge, or denture. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

  • Promote bone retention
  • Eliminate slipping, loose, wobbly dentures
  • Can last a lifetime
  • Look, feel and function like natural teeth

Implant Supported Denture

While typical dentures shift and may require the use of denture adhesives to keep them in place, implants fit solidly, reducing the problems associated with traditional dentures such as gum sores and difficulty chewing. Implant supported dentures distribute your biting pressure more like natural teeth than traditional dentures, stimulating the supportive structures and preventing the bone and soft tissues from shrinking away. You can replace an entire set of teeth with beautiful, natural-looking implants.

A proper fitting denture is very important. A good fit ensures that your dentures will allow you to regain much of your function, which is important for maintaining natural muscle tone in your face and jaw. Dentures will keep you looking and feeling healthy, and will help you retain a natural lifestyle. A natural smile and the best possible fit – those are two of the primary goals that Hill Avenue Dental will achieve if you need dentures to restore your smile.

Removable Partial Denture

Partial dentures are used if you have several teeth missing that cannot be corrected with a bridge. A removable partial denture is created to replace those teeth. The removable partial denture is designed to fit comfortably and blend with any remaining teeth. It mimics your gum tissue and teeth to create a natural looking smile while restoring function. A metal free removable partial may be a good option for replacing missing teeth. Ask Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell which type of removable partial is best for you.

Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell may recommend a crown. A crown can restore a broken tooth or strengthen a tooth that has had a root canal treatment or a large filling. Crowns may be made of porcelain, ceramic, gold, or other metals. You and your doctor will decide which option is best for you.

If you’ve lost a tooth, a large gap in your smile can create significant problems for your dental health if left uncorrected. Gradually, your bite pressure may shift to other parts of your mouth to compensate for an inability to chew efficiently in the area of the missing tooth. Adjacent teeth may begin to move into the gap resulting in discomfort, pain and more problems in the future. After some preparation of the two adjacent teeth, crowns are created for them. A prosthetic tooth, or pontic, is fused between the crowns. Fixed bridges literally “bridge the gap” in your smile. Hill Avenue Dental creates a functional, natural looking bridge to correct your smile, restore your bite and alleviate your discomfort.

Most people who are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth do not realize the numerous ways cosmetic care can improve a smile. Cosmetic dentistry can correct crooked teeth, spaces between your teeth, chipped teeth, broken or missing teeth, stained or discolored teeth. Hill Avenue Dental creates a customized treatment plan for you, based on your age, goals and your comfort level financially.

Porcelain Veneers

Imagine a whiter, straighter, more brilliant smile! Placement of porcelain veneers is a conservative cosmetic treatment that makes a dramatic difference in the appearance of your teeth. If you have crooked teeth, chipped teeth, gaps in teeth or dull or stained teeth, veneers may be the perfect solution. Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell will skillfully create a straight, brilliant smile that enhances your appearance and your self-esteem.

You can have the confidence that comes from a bright, whiter smile. If you are happy with the alignment and spacing of your teeth, a teeth whitening procedure may be all that separates you from a dazzling smile. Teeth whitening is safe and effective. Your home whitening kit involves a special tray that is customized to fit over your teeth to evenly disperse prescription whitening gel, which is inserted into the tray before you wear it. You can expect the entire home whitening process to take between two and four weeks, leaving you with a whiter, brighter smile. With home whitening, you can reuse your trays to touch up your smile whenever it needs a little boost. If you are thinking of other cosmetic improvements, such as crowns, porcelain veneers or replacing old discolored fillings, consider whitening your teeth first. Any future restorations will be matched to your whitened teeth, giving you fantastic results.

Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

You can erase years of wear and tear with porcelain crowns. Crowns are also used to restore chipped teeth, broken teeth, gaps in teeth and other damage. Porcelain bridges can be placed to replace a missing tooth. The bridge is anchored to existing teeth or crowns on either side of the missing teeth.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

With new advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored composite fillings instead of silver fillings resulting in a long lasting, brighter, whiter smile. The new tooth-colored material is bonded to the tooth for a stronger restoration.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a tooth-colored material applied and adhered to the surface of the tooth, often without reducing the structure of the tooth. The bonding material is sculpted by Hill Avenue Dental so that it resembles a natural tooth, correcting chipped, broken, stained or discolored teeth and in some cases correcting gaps. While it is less of an investment than porcelain veneers, bonding doesn’t last as long and can sometimes become stained from foods and beverages. We encourage you to make to make an appointment to talk with our team about your options.

Your enjoyable dental experience depends on your comfort. Hill Avenue Dental utilizes advances in dental equipment and techniques to ensure your satisfaction with both your visit and continued dental health.

Digital X-rays

We offer digital radiographs (x-rays). Digital radiographs use less radiation and are safer for you than traditional radiographs. You will find that we researched the latest technology to find the solutions that promote your overall health, safety and comfort. Radiographs are a necessary diagnostic tool in the field of dentistry. More than half of each tooth is hidden and surrounded by bone. The only way to truly evaluate the health of your teeth and bone surrounding your teeth is through the necessary diagnostic radiographs.

Snoring/Sleep Apnea

If you or a loved one snores, you are likely aware that snoring often accompanies fitful sleep. Snoring happens when the soft palate relaxes to the point of cutting off the airway. Snore appliances are designed to comfortably hold the airway open during sleep. There are a wide variety of snore appliances available to you.

Severe snoring may also be a sign of a more serious problem called sleep apnea. Sleep apnea occurs when an individual stops breathing for a period of time during sleep. If you have been diagnosed by a medical doctor with sleep apnea and are non-tolerant of a CPAP we may be able to offer alternative treatment in the form of an intraoral appliance. Let Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell select the right one that fits your needs.

Intraoral Camera

Our intraoral camera lets you see inside your mouth during both treatment planning and dental procedures. Our intraoral camera displays your teeth on a monitor allowing Dr. Dotson or Dr. Hartzell to walk you through your proposed treatment. The use of this camera allows us to work with you as a team to meet your dental goals.

Digital Radiographs

Radiographs are a necessary tool for a complete and accurate diagnosis. At Hill Ave Dental we utilize digital radiographs which offer our patients an 80% reduction in radiation exposure compared to conventional radiographs. Additionally, they are much quicker to take, eliminate the need for processing chemicals, and aid in patient education.

lntraoral Camera

At Hill Avenue Dental we use an intraoral camera to take pictures of your teeth and gums which allows patients to see what is happening in their mouths. These pictures aid in communication and understanding of the dental treatment that needs to be done.

Personalized Music

We offer blue tooth headphones and Pandora so patients can listen to the kind of music they enjoy. Just let us know what you like! Or feel free to bring your own headphones and music as well.
